Primer: Web Development using Visual Studio Code & Prepros

This beginner level video demonstrates how to setup a website development environment using Prepros and Visual Studio Code. It provides a brief introduction to the tools by building a very simple website that contains html, stylesheets and javascript. The demonstrated tools work on both Mac and Windows.

The main teaching theme of this video is to demonstrate a website development workflow where changes appear in the web browser immediately after code changes have been saved.

The video also exposes the viewer to useful tools for doing website development:

  • Visual Studio Code – a lightweight editor, with a huge set of features,  for doing code development that runs on Windows, Mac and Linux
  • Prepros – a point-and-click based task runner which contains a development web-server and functionality for preprocessing several types of web file types commonly used in website development
